Default to Open
In the wake of the recent WikiLeaks affair, organizations are reconsidering their approach to openness and transparency. The author believes that in 2011 there will be a 180-degree shift towards a “default to open” position where information is only restricted on a “need not to know basis”. The article argues that smart organisations proactively choose to be open and understandingly reap the benefits. Embracing this shift willingly will be much easier, while others will struggle to implement it. Ultimately, this article postulates that businesses and institutions need to be rewired to be more open in culture and structure in order to amplify their position and potential in a networked world.
