Aspire Foods from McGill University was awarded the 2013 Hult Prize of one million dollars at the Clinton Global Initiative for their innovative business model using micro livestock to produce high-quality, low-cost protein for food-insecure areas. The judges deemed it a revolutionary solution with a low carbon footprint. The Hult Prize, founded by Ahmad Ashkar and supported by President Bill Clinton and the Clinton Global Initiative, seeks to promote social entrepreneurship worldwide. 250 semi-final teams participated in the Hult Prize, with Aspire Foods emerging as the ultimate winner.
