Does Location Matter for Open Innovation?
The Institute for Manufacturing at Cambridge University hosted an Open Innovation Research Forum that tackled the question of whether location matters for open innovation. While web-based innovation is cost-effective and reaches a large audience, it lacks the crucial component of building trusted networks and ecosystems achieved through face-to-face interactions. The challenge is to embrace both the strengths of physical clusters and the connectivity of virtual networks to create open innovation ecosystems or Clusters 2.0.
