Who is responsible for innovation?
While the head of R&D may seem like the natural pick to lead innovation in a company, relying on just one group or business function to generate all ideas can hinder progress. Additionally, good ideas for improving business processes may not belong to the R&D team at all. This leaves many questions about assigning responsibility for innovation, which is why a Chief Innovation Officer could be a valuable addition to any organization. This person could be responsible for implementing tools, processes, and culture to help evaluate and move forward the best ideas, and report the innovation pipeline to senior management.
