Innovation leaders need to play a critical role in organizations in times of crises, and not just be focused on helping the organization thrive and drive growth in periods of stability. During times of instability, like in the case of new competitors entering their markets or technology driving competition, the role of innovation becomes paramount. According to the author, during times of crisis, innovation leaders need to focus on providing strategic context, developing responses, communicating early and often, focusing on social innovation and reorienting the innovation ecosystem.
