Internet Future Driven by User Reputation Scores
Online reputation scores will be a norm in 20 years, affecting our credibility. This prediction is driven by three trends: rate performance of businesses, migration of transparent work and information online, and reliance on social media for information. Online ratings have been important since eBay, identifying top sellers through customer ratings. Yelp applied this concept to offline experience. Moreover, as more content is created online and through social media, it is easily accessible and searchable. As reliance on strangers for information increases, there will be an increased need for knowing which strangers provide the top quality information, and reputation will fill that gap.
