Innovation Perspectives - Predicting Innovations
Drew Boyd, Assistant Professor of Marketing and Innovation at the University of Cincinnati, predicts that future products in the next 10 years will be more mobile, adaptive, simple, specific, and ideal. Mobility will not just be limited to communication but will also involve taking advantage of data created as people move through their day. Adaptiveness focuses on changing a product's characteristics depending on the situation of its use. Simplicity means products will attract more users if they are easy to understand by all, including children. Specificity refers to using unique aspects of a problem to find a solution, while ideality refers to a product's unique solution to a problem appearing when it is needed. The S.I.T. method is useful for creating innovative products in all these five areas.
