The Business Model Canvas (BMC) is on the brink of becoming mainstream, thanks to the convergence of global market conditions, industry forces, and macro events that are disrupting existing business norms. It started with the curious being drawn to Alexander Osterwalder's collaborative book, Business Model Generation, and has since grown into an adoption curve that now includes the Lean Startup methodology and the arrival of plug-ins like the Customer Value Canvas. With the shelf life of business models shortening, leaders need the tools, skills, and experience to envision, test, and implement new business models, and the BMC is emerging as a colorful language for articulating and methodically exploring these new models.
