7 challenges innovation managers face in 2020
Board of Innovation has identified 7 patterns that innovation professionals face despite the industry and innovation capabilities within organizations naturally evolving and maturing. The identified patterns include innovation initiatives with no innovation strategy, putting Agile before sufficient user research, managerial support for radical and disruptive innovation, the need for disruptive business model innovation capabilities, new business creation and support in structuring the organization, a gap between knowing what to do and actually doing it, and a shift towards the beginning and end stages of the innovation funnel. Organizations should align their innovation initiatives with their growth strategy, conduct ethnographic research before proceeding with Agile, and focus on developing disruptive business model innovation capabilities before handing over projects to Agile teams. Innovation activities must be supported by a fully formulated innovation strategy to ensure business impact return.
