What Rockmelt tells us about innovation
The browser market is constantly evolving, with new browsers entering the market to compete with the likes of Internet Explorer, Firefox, and Safari. Despite the relatively low return on investment for these free or inexpensive browsers, the number of potential customers and the demand for increased flexibility and social media integration continue to drive innovation. Looking forward, mobile devices and even cars are expected to require lightweight and adaptable browsers. Developing new browsers requires identifying customer needs, rapid prototyping, and piloting with customers for valuable feedback. One such browser, Rockmelt, aims to integrate social media seamlessly and reduce the back and forth between tabs. Its success in meeting an important customer need remains to be seen.
