Elon Musk, South African-born, settled in the USA and founded Zip2 which he sold for $330m; then X.com which became PayPal and sold for $1.5B, and thirdly SpaceX, which transported cargo to the International Space Station. He also helped launch Tesla Motors, selling electric cars with carbon-fibre reinforced bodies, open-source patents and no dealerships. Musk’s radical new concept for transportation, the Hyperloop, and his vision for space exploration have inspired people to think big. Musk’s early successful businesses fueled his big ambitions, and he bypassed traditional channels.
