The Entrepreneurial City
The popular perception of innovation is that it is a trait of individual entrepreneurs like Elon Musk and Steve Jobs. However, this is misleading because their success is built on significant public sector investment. Governments are often the real risk-takers and innovators as they collaborate with the private sector to create a whole greater than the sum of its parts. Innovation is a byproduct of public and private sector collaboration, which is most enhanced in cities like Pittsburgh and Berlin. The quality of people and their ability to experiment is the primary differentiator, rather than the size or sector of the organization they work for.
