Sources of Employee Motivation – Understanding the Two-Factor Theory
Herzberg's Two-Factor Theory divides employee motivation into hygiene and motivation factors. Businesses that are low on hygiene and motivation factors are defined as "nightmares", while those that have high hygiene factors but low motivation factors are "just a paycheck." Those that have low hygiene factors but high motivation factors are "cults", while those with both high hygiene and motivational factors are "dream jobs." In order to motivate employees, businesses need great leadership from top management and the ability to support employees to find their inner motivation.
