Innovation circles the publishing industry
James Patterson, a prolific author, has teamed up with his traditional publisher to create "bookshots," shorter books of 150 pages or less with the same plots and action as long books. Patterson believes that people want to read, but don't have the time for lengthy books. While this solution may be effective at addressing the decline in readership, the real problem may lie in the lack of interactivity in traditional book publishing. Social media has accustomed readers to a certain level of connectivity and co-creation, which is lacking in the printed page. Patterson's solution may be a step in the right direction, but it is important for the industry to continue experimenting and innovating.
