Generating Ideas or Focusing on Problems?
A problem-centric approach to finding solutions is common, but according to research, a positive emotional attractor or PEA leads to more sustainable solutions, compared to the negative emotional attractor or NEA. A PEA mindset allows for cognitive flexibility, stimulating future possibilities and considering new ideas, while a NEA mindset results in a state of stress and agitation, leading to tunnel vision. Changing the culture of an organization towards a PEA or idea-orientation approach can lead to significant improvements in problem-solving and innovation efforts, but must be done gradually and strategically.
