Finding the Root Cause with a Fishbone Diagram (+ Stormboard’s new Fishbone Template)
Also known as an Ishikawa diagram, a Fishbone diagram is a map in the shape of a fish used to solve problems by identifying the root cause of an issue. The team writes the problem on the fish head and uses categories such as People, Method, Machine, Material, and Environment to structure their ideas. They add all the causes of the problem as smaller lines deriving from the 'bones.' Once the root cause is identified, the team can find solutions. Stormboard offers a Fishbone template to help teams use this method quickly.
