Too Much of a Good Thing
While it's true that new ideas drive organic growth, there are times when over-innovating can hinder an organization's progress. For instance, when a company is over-positioned, it may lose market share by focusing too much on premium customers. Under capacity is another issue that may arise when generating too many ideas, leading to idea fatigue and lack of progress. Straying from core competencies may also prevent an organization from growing in the right direction. Finally, drifting off strategy by exploring too many ideas can take resources away from areas that are fueling growth.
