May the 4th Industrial Revolution be with You – Part 2: You Can Check Out Any Time You Like But You Can Never Leave

The impact of the 4th Industrial Revolution on the workforce was explored in a recent survey conducted by the World Economic Forum. The findings revealed that by 2022, over 50% of all workplace tasks will be handled by machines and algorithms. However, it also suggests that increased automation will create new job avenues in e-commerce, social media, data analysis, and software development, while roles that require human skills such as customer service and marketing will continue to be in demand. White-collar jobs such as payroll and accounting clerks will face obsolescence. It is anticipated that every industry will have skills gaps that need to be filled, with reskilling and upskilling becoming necessary to prepare for the changes ahead. Increased automation will also allow for more flexible working conditions, including remote working and contract workers in specialist task capacities.
