Innovation and Reputation

Collaboration and information sharing are key to sustainable innovation, but technical workers often keep critical information private. A study of more than 200 pharmaceutical scientists found that workers will share information if they trust their colleagues and believe they will return the favor. Companies can foster collaboration by co-locating workers and providing training in the principles of influence. Individuals can build their reputations by sharing meaningful information and having social relationships within their work groups.
