Creative Ideas - Are too many bold ideas killing your creativity?
A new way of assessing the creativity in an organization has been proposed by measuring the percent of time creative ideas are told to be pulled back because they are too bold. The Creative Pullback Ratio (CPR) is the ratio of the number of creative ideas suggested to the number of times they were pulled back because of bigness and boldness. If you are asked to rein in every creative idea, there is a problem. Furthermore, if no one ever challenges your thinking with your creativity, that is also a problem as you are going for safe and easy rather than innovative and disruptive. The right frequency of getting told to pull back creative ideas is somewhere between zero and 100%, with the appropriate value being dependent on situational factors.
