Contributors and Detractors: Ranking Countries’ Impact on Global Innovation
The report evaluates the impact of countries’ economic and trade policies on the global innovation system. It assessed 27 indicators, including 14 constructive contributors and 13 detractors to the stock of innovation. The study categorizes policies into three groups: taxes, human capital, and R&D and technology. Finland, Sweden, the United Kingdom, Singapore, and the Netherlands are the countries doing the most to support global innovation while doing little to detract from it. Meanwhile, Argentina, Indonesia, India, Thailand, and Ukraine contribute less to global innovation and use more innovation mercantilist policies that harm it.
