To Truly Disrupt Your Industry, You Can’t Go It Alone
GE Power is looking to transform the power industry by capitalizing on new innovations to make power more affordable and sustainable. In an interview with Hao Dinh, an intrapreneur leading GE Power's innovation initiative, he explains how they are partnering with their customers to co-innovate together. The biggest obstacle they have faced is deciding who owns the IP. However, they've discovered that collaborating with customers on both the innovation and business model side of things has worked really well. Furthermore, they've been testing out a new type of innovation called "cross-industry innovation," facilitated by external consultants, where companies from different industries come together and co-innovate in specific areas. GE Power is also learning that to survive, it's no longer about trying to be the best energy company or utility company, but rather companies must learn to work with their competitors to advance the industry as a whole. To achieve this, both customers and intrapreneurs need to remain curious, keep up energy levels and always be on the lookout for collaboration opportunities.
