Strategic Thinking – Job Descriptions Don’t Define Innovation Potential

A highly-focused, customer-facing team's job roles were considered very narrow and targeted by the company. Despite this, they still had valuable insights through their breadth of company and customer issues. When encouraged to engage in strategic thinking about innovation opportunities for the company, they initially deferred, believing their narrow job descriptions precluded this. However, after being reassured that this was not the case, they shared their valuable strategic thinking insights. A job description isn't always indicative of how an individual or team can contribute to strong, dynamic, and innovative strategic thinking.
