Can you learn to be more creative?
Creativity is often thought of as an innate ability, but innovation management experts argue that it is a skill that can be taught and enhanced. Recognizing the constraints of a problem is key to producing creative solutions. Rom Schrift, a marketing professor at the University of Pennsylvania, believes that "thinking outside the box" is not always the best approach, as we often don't know what the "box" is. By recognizing and utilizing constraints, such as the limited number of words Dr. Seuss had to use in a book, individuals can become more creative. Courses in creativity and problem-solving are becoming more common in academic disciplines, as companies value employees who can think creatively and solve complex problems.
